The Down Syndrome Prenatal Outreach Program is a comprehensive program for organizations who want to provide prenatal support to expectant parents receiving a prenatal Down syndrome diagnosis. The primary components of the program include the distribution of materials to medical professionals and the training of parent volunteers offering prenatal support who are Down Syndrome Representatives. The program includes professionally designed letter templates for physicians, templates for Down Syndrome Representative training seminars, and numerous supplementary training materials. Canister is offering this program at no charge as a public service to the Down syndrome community.
The Down Syndrome Representative notebook is a tool for training support volunteers. The notebook is intended to be provided to each Down Syndrome Representative, and it includes an explanation of the program and expectations as well as information about crisis management, listening skills, effective communication, role playing, telephone support, and more.
