Rose Pedal Relaunch

After a soft launch a few weeks back, we pulled the curtain back on the full set of features for an all new, much better-ficiation design for the 2010 Rose Pedal site. All new photography, jerseys, and fundraising for a bike. The launch also included a newsletter announcing all things new and better-ish.

Cannondale ‘00

Ten years ago I bought a Cannondale R1000 covered in a striking orange that made for an emotional attachment that consistently suppresses my instinct to get something newer and more shiny. Even after these years, it continues to draw second-glances and compliments (it doesn’t hurt that it’s kept clean). This is the design legacy we strive for; to look at something ten years later and say, “I wouldn’t have changed a thing.”

MINI Kit

A favorite class of product around here is the kit. It’s an explosive introduction to a brand & product all at once, condensed into a single box. MINI recently had us salivating with a fresh Adventure Field Kit. The kit comes with an array of random objects that are best described as fun.

Rodney Smith

As a collaboration done some time ago with David Meredith, we designed the front-end code for Rodney Smith’s expansive website. Although it looks minimal and compact, the site sports a library of several thousand images. Individuals can save their own collections of favorites for reminiscing and purchasing.

Creature ABC (just in time)

Wrapping up the best of 2009, both TIME and The New York Times peg Creature ABC as one of the best of the year. We’d have to agree, as the ardent fans we are, and shamelessly plug the book as an excellent holiday gift. Amazon has it for less than $15 (as of Dec 11).

Trade Association Scholarship

We’ve happily donated time to create enviable sites for Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action (DSAIA) for the past two years while also designing trendsetting newsletters. DSAIA surprised us recently with a ‘thank you’ payment of $1000 for our efforts. We’ve pondered this gesture and have decided to pass the deed along. So, we are offering two $500 matching scholarships to worthy Down syndrome organizations interested in joining the DSAIA Trade Association.

The DSAIA Trade Association offers tremendous benefits to the Down syndrome community, including reduced conference rates, fabulous quarterly e-newsletters, online DSAIA webinars and courses, professional staff to answer questions, group discounts, and a resource library of top program materials. (In the near future this library will get a new contribution from us—a really cool Down syndrome website template designed by Canister for free to any group that belongs to the trade organization.)

The rules for the $500 matching scholarship are as follows:

To be considered, send us an email @ info@canisterco.com and put ‘$500,’ ‘Trade Association,’ ‘We Dig This,’ ‘Seriously, you’re giving away free money?’ or some other interesting phrase in the subject line.
The chosen organizations must match the $500 and join the Trade Association by Dec 31, 2009.
The selection criteria are completely subjective and will be entirely exposed to our whims.
That said, we are most interested in giving scholarships to small groups that have jump-started a prenatal outreach program.

Rose Pedal retirement

One year ago we put up the site for the Rose Pedal, a charity fundraiser for Cystic fibrosis. Although we anticipated the event would draw up to 50 cyclists in its first year, being run by the amateur cyclists that we are, the finally tally of 234 participants impressed and humbled us. The course is incredibly beautiful, the time of year is perfect for a season-opening ride, and the organizers & cyclists couldn’t be more pleasant.

While planning for the 2010 ride (on April 17, mark your calendars) we anticipated a substantial increase in riders. So we’re retiring the original website as of today and launching an entirely new site within the next two weeks. We’re just going on the record saying that first site was cool.

Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action

Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action (DSAIA) is a conference and a budding Trade Association that facilitates sharing information, programs, and progress between Down syndrome organizations. We’ve donated our time and skill to create the identity, website, newsletters, and all things visual at the conference.
